Today, Ben Peters is a Lead Advisor and Principal at Burton Enright Welch, as well as BEW’s Chief Compliance Offer. But his career journey was far from typical. He was recently featured on the New Planner Podcast, a show hosted by New Planning Recruiting co-founder Caleb Brown that helps people start and accelerate their financial planning careers. Ben talks about his unconventional path and what he finds most rewarding about his work as a financial planner.
Ben initially set out to be a lawyer, but after earning his J.D. he realized that being an attorney was not his life’s calling. He says his early days working as a lawyer mostly served as a lesson in what he didn’t want to do. At first, he had misconceptions about what it meant to be a financial planner – thinking the role entailed being a salesperson or a stock picker. But as he learned more about the independent advisory industry, he realized the role of a financial planner has much in common with the counselor role he had in mind when he went to law school.
Ben joined Burton Enright Welch seven years ago as an Associate Financial Planner and quickly established himself as a valued member of the team. In April, he was named a co-owner of the firm.
